Australian Open
January 24, 2022
Three American women are still contenders for the Australian Open crown. And that suggests tennis in the USA will remain strong and exciting beyond the era of the great Serena Williams.
Jessica Pegula faces Wimbledon’s reigning champion, Ashleigh Barty in the quarter-finals in Melbourne.
Meanwhile Madison Keys has shown great form to win through and face Barbora Krejcikova at the same stage.
Danielle Collins looks incredibly powerful and will provide a stern test for fiery French woman Alize Cornet.
The last quarter-final sees Polish star Iga Swiatek play Kaia Kanepi.
But it’s the form of Pegula, Keys and Collins that is creating so much optimism in the USA.
And young American star Taylor Fritz came so close to beating Stefanos Tsitsipas and reaching the last eight in the men’s tournament.
It all amounts to a lot of good reasons why American fans should flock to Wimbledon 2022.
US tennis is staging a comeback on many fronts. Seems like a good time for American tennis-lovers to come back to Wimbledon 2022 in even greater numbers too!
Canada also has reason to rejoice after two of their best young men reached the quarter-finals.
Denis Shapovalov plays the great Rafael Nadal. Meanwhile Felix Auger-Aliassime will try to shock Daniil Medvedev.
North Americans on either side of the border will now eye Wimbledon 2022 as an event where their favourites can bid for titles and go deep into the second week.
And Wimbledon 2022 will be ready to give those fans from across the Atlantic a massive welcome.
Back in Melbourne the other two quarter-finals will see the flamboyant Gael Monfils take on Italian superstar Matteo Berrettini, while Stefanos Tsitsipas faces another, younger Italian – Jannik Sinner.
