December 20, 2021

Emma Raducanu received the perfect Christmas gift at the end of an extraordinary year.

She followed in the footsteps of the great Andy Murray to claim one of Britain’s most prestigious awards.

What a week it has been! Murray beat Nadal and then Raducanu earned a very special accolade.

BBC Sports Personality of the Year is the perfect measure of how much love and admiration a star commands for what they have achieved.

Emma Raducanu is now the most popular sports hero in Britain after her US Open triumph.

And she mentioned Wimbledon as a massive highlight in her victory speech.

She said: ‘Thanks to all the fans and voters, this year has been insane. The energy this year playing at Wimbledon in front of my home crowd, that was something I’ve never felt before.’

Just imagine how much Emma Raducanu is looking forward to Wimbledon 2022!

And picture the incredible welcome she will receive on Centre Court!

Who wouldn’t want to be part of such a joyous occasion next summer?

Raducanu’s big dream now is to win Wimbledon. And she will work harder than ever to achieve her goal.

British tennis is on a massive high.

Andy Murray is now mixing it with the very best as he times his comeback to perfection with Wimbledon 2022 in mind.

Murray went toe-to-toe with world number five Andrey Rublev in the Abu Dhabi final and took the Russian to a tie-break in the second set.

After downing the great Nadal the day before, this shows Murray is starting to return to his very best.

In a few months’ time he will have genuine Grand Slam title ambitions once more.

And we think he can go deep at his favourite tournament to become a major contender. Especially now that he is getting so many top-quality matches under his belt.

So British tennis fans will have two massive superstars of their own to cheer at Wimbledon 2022.

Raducanu and Murray will both feel they have a chance of winning the singles titles if things go their way.

When have we ever been able to say that about two Brits simultaneously?

And Wimbledon 2022 will be a massive celebration of life and sporting enjoyment once more.

In the All England Club’s centenary year, history will ooze from every corner at the greatest Grand Slam on the tennis calendar.

It’s fitting that Raducanu – who made fresh history at Flushing Meadows a few months ago – will be the centre of attention.

She certainly was when she received her BBC Sports Personality of the Year award.

She said: ‘I’m really happy with this! I’ve watched Sports Personality of the Year growing up and it’s an honour to be among those past winners.

‘I’m happy for British tennis as well, and that we’ve managed to get this award…again!’

Andy Murray has won the award three times so far, his last honour coming in 2016.

Raducanu is still just 19 and she is the first female tennis player to win the award since the great Virginia Wade in 1977.

That was the year Wade won Wimbledon, of course.

Can Emma Raducanu win Wimbledon 2022?

Yes she can. And whatever happens, the drama and history, the glamour and emotion surrounding Wimbledon will be off the scale.
