Andy Murray Begins Wimbledon Build-Up

Andy Murray has begun his European comeback in order to be fully fit in time for Wimbledon 2021.

Britain’s favourite sports personality is in Rome to practise with Novak Djokovic and others.

Then he is hoping for a wildcard for either of the ATP tournaments in Geneva or Lyon.

That should put him in good enough shape to take part in the French Open on another wild card.

Roland Garros begins on May 30 and the organisers will welcome the popular Scot if they can.

But all this is really designed to get Murray ready for Wimbledon 2021.

He needs a good few weeks of matches to be ready to hit top gear in time for the grass court season.

Having won Wimbledon twice, no one would begrudge Murray his time again on Centre Court.

The fans will give Andy one of the warmest welcomes in Wimbledon history in a few months’ time.

And the atmosphere at Wimbledon 2021 is going to be unforgettable after The Championships had to skip 2020.

Everyone will be keen to make up for lost time and create a truly joyous occasion!

But Murray doesn’t just want to make up the numbers at Wimbledon. He wants to go deep at his home Slam.

In fact Murray still believes he can win Wimbledon 2021 if everything falls into place.

The first step was some training in London. He brought in his old coach Mark Petchey to help.

And initial signs are encouraging. Andy said: ‘I had to do quite a lot of work in the gym to address some imbalances and lack of range of motion.

‘I’ve been working on that for a few weeks but the positive thing was that I was able to practise pretty much since I got back from Miami.

‘The last five or six days there has been a definite improvement. I’ve played points the last four days and there hasn’t been any residual pain when waking up.’

Now Murray has been testing his skills and fitness in practice in Rome against Diego Schwartzman.

His friend and rival Djokovic could be up next.

Murray has always said there is no substitute for playing against the very best out there.

That’s the only way he can really measure his own level.

But one thing is for sure, whatever happens during the rest of the clay court season.

Andy Murray is absolutely determined to play Wimbledon 2021.

He misses the home crowds. He can’t wait to taste the atmosphere on Centre Court once more.

It’ll be emotional. It’ll be tennis history in the making.
