Federer: See You At Wimbledon!
Locker Room
February 20, 2020
Roger Federer has reassured Wimbledon tennis fans that he expects to be ready for the championships this summer following his knee operation.
The French Open’s loss appears to be Wimbledon’s gain.
Federer revealed he has had minor surgery but remains very upbeat.
‘I can’t wait to be back playing again soon, see you on the grass!’
That was how Federer signed off on his statement this week.
And it is perfectly clear that Roger has timed his operation so that he can rest up and be ready for the biggest Grand Slam of them all.
Indeed Federer’s hero, Rod Laver supported his decision and echoed that pronouncement.
Laver said: ‘Rest up Roger, see you on the grass in no time.’
In fact there are still nearly 130 days until Wimbledon 2020. So Federer has plenty of time to be fully fit for the tournament he loves so much.
And although nothing in this life can be entirely guaranteed, it looks highly likely that Federer will be back on song when it matters most.
The operation was, after all, a great success and sweetly timed like almost everything the great man does.
Federer’s statement explained: ‘My right knee has been bothering me for a little while.
‘I hoped it would go away but after an examination and discussion with my team, I decided to have arthroscopic surgery in Switzerland yesterday.
‘After the procedure, the doctors confirmed that it was the right thing to have done and are very confident of a full recovery.
‘As a result I will unfortunately have to miss Dubai, Indian Wells, Bogota, Miami and the French Open.
‘I am grateful for everyone’s support. I can’t wait to be back playing again soon, see you on the grass!’
It is of course a great shame for Federer fans who were hoping to see their hero at the events he must now miss.
But Roger will aim to arrive at Wimbledon fresh and revitalised following his lay-off.
And that can only be good news for the fans in London. We all hope that Federer can make more history at the home of tennis.
After Wimbledon, he aims to play the Olympics and the US Open. Then he will have decisions to make about his future.
As things stand, he still intends to play on into 2021 as well.
For now there will be rest and then the right kind of training for Wimbledon 2020.
Get well soon Roger! We can’t wait to see you grace Centre Court once more!
