Serena “Super Excited” About Wimbledon Chances, Zverev Knocked Out of Roland Garros

Serena Williams has suggested she has a great chance of making Wimbledon in four weeks’ time.
She had to pull out of the clash with Maria Sharapova at Roland Garros due to a pectoral muscle injury.
But maybe now the big rivals could go again at Wimbledon because Williams seems to rate her chances highly after an initial medical consultation.
OPTIMISM
‘Today has been interesting already,’ she said in a video she posted on Instagram. ‘I have just finished one exam with one doctor and the news is actually super-exciting.’
Barring any sudden revelations in an MRI scan to counter that optimism, it seems that tennis fans can start to look forward to seeing Serena on the grass of the All England Club.
There are already debates about the kind of seeding she will be given. But it is thought that Wimbledon will look upon her situation favourably, as Serena seeks to rise back up the rankings after taking time out to have her baby daughter.
CRASHING
Meanwhile Alexander “Sascha” Zverev, the number two seed at Roland Garros, went crashing out to Dominic Thiem in straight sets.
Zverev was clutching his left hamstring from midway through the match, as Thiem moved him all over the court to win 6-4, 6-2, 6-1.
The fact that Zverev was able to finish the match indicates no more than a strain and there is little doubt he will be fit and ready for Wimbledon too.
RUTHLESS
What Zverev must lear is to be more ruthless in the early rounds of a Grand Slam.
Too many five-setters have placed too much of a strain on his 21-year-old body.
However, Zverev can take some comfort from the fact that he reached his first Grand Slam quarter-final. And he will hope to do even better at Wimbledon.
TALENTED
There was joy for Madison Keys, the talented American who has reached her first French Open semi-final with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 victory over Yulia Putintseva.
The Kazakh fought bravely but Keys is now showing the sort of form that took her all the way to the US Open final last year, where she lost to compatriot Sloane Stephens.
Could it be that Serena, Madison and Sloane all make a big impact at Wimbledon 2018 too?
