Federer v Murray or Federer v Nadal? A Dream Final Beckons!

Already dreaming of a Federer v Murray Wimbledon final? Or maybe Federer v Nadal would be the ultimate for you?
Guess what? Your dream can come true after the Wimbledon draw made the most mouthwatering contests very possible indeed.
That draw puts the champion, Andy Murray, in the opposite half of the draw to the favourite, Roger Federer.
If Murray can overcome his hip niggle, after taking a sensible rest, and find his best form at his favourite venue, the route to the final is one he is certainly capable of negotiating.
Andy might face Australian Nick Kyrgios in the last sixteen, Stan Wawrinka in the quarters, and Rafael Nadal in the semis. Then Murray would probably face the legendary Federer in the final.
It’s all speculation of course. And global tennis fans flocking to London would be just as thrilled to see a Federer v Nadal dream final, a repeat of this year’s Australian Open showpiece.
What is important, from the draw, is that the most attractive finals have been preserved as possibilities. However, the formidable Novak Djokovic might have something to say about the business end of Wimbledon 2017 too.
If he can somehow shake off his troubled year and storm back at Wimbledon, Djokovic might provide a stern test for Federer in the semis.
And Roger could have to beat his conqueror last year, Milos Raonic, in the quarters before he can come up against the biggest stars.
But then Federer should really have beaten Raonic in the semis last summer, as he admitted all too readily.
Could you see him making the same mistakes this year if he has Raonic where he wants him? Probably not.
And on recent form, Roger would take care of Novak in their potential semi too.
If Roger faces Andy in the final, tickets will be like gold dust. No less true if it is Federer versus Nadal on the big day.
These are very special times and they won’t last forever. Maybe that is why this year’s Wimbledon is so keenly anticipated.
Meanwhile in the women’s draw, world number one Angelique Kerber would see Karolina Pliskova become her theoretical semi-final opponent.
French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko could come against the woman she beat in the Roland Garros final, Simona Halep, but this time in the Wimbledon semi-finals.
But both Kerber and Ostapenko were beaten in a single, incredible day at Eastbourne by the British number one, Johanna Konta.
Unfortunately, injury to Konta towards the end of her victory over Kerber meant that she faced a race against time to be fully fit for Wimbledon. However, Konta is certainly a fighter and will doubtless do everything she can to take part.
The biggest stars will be there. And Venus Williams, playing in her twentieth Wimbledon, begins her campaign against Belgium’s Elise Mertens.
