Novak Djokovic beat Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 under a closed roof on Centre Court to stay on collision course with Andy Murray for a mouth-watering semi-final showdown on Friday. The defending champion saw off South African Kevin Anderson 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 to delight the Wimbledon crowd and continue his march towards a second successive title.
But Murray faces a massive challenge in the quarter-finals on Wednesday, where he will face many people’s outsider for glory, Grigor Dimitrov. That one could well be an epic too!
Murray said after Monday’s win: ‘I don’t feel that winning Wimbledon is something anyone can take away from me. But this event means a lot to me and I’ll try to win it again. I’ll try my best to execute a game-plan and win another three sets on Wednesday.’
Sounds simple. Yet Queens winner Dimitrov will provide a much sterner test than Anderson. And the way Novak dealt with Tsonga’s comeback means that the number one seed will almost certainly be waiting to put up a formidable barrier to Murray’s third successive final.
Could Andy down Dimitrov and Djokovic in the space of three days? Time will tell!

Djokovic and Tsonga seemed to serve aces at will in an epic third set clash of sheer power. But Novak came up with a stunning return to close out the crucial tie-break. Controversially, the umpire tried to claim the match-winning shot was out. But “Hawkeye” showed otherwise and Djokovic knew he was through to face Croatian danger-man Marian Cilic.
Novak admitted: ‘In the final set, Tsonga came up with some big serves but I made a chance for myself in the tie-break and closed it out really well.’
New sensation Eugenie Bouchard and Sabine Lisicki, last year’s darling of Wimbledon and heartbroken finalist, are both through to fight another day in the women’s draw.
